Report by TX operator, Dave Chippendale:

Some friends Alan and Janet told me about this site, being at the rear of their home. It’s a small triangular valley with houses to the south and the start of the A627(M) motorway north east, with the final side being a small river and the B6195.

The aerial was fastened to the steady cable of a low voltage pylon and followed the cables for a short distance before dropping down the steep side of the small valley to the small stream at the bottom, where the hide was.

I didn’t know at the time but nobody spotted my deliberate mistake of leaving the TX on from the start until I noticed it at 10:35, so I decided to be economical with the rest until some one found me, not in the remotest believing that it would be after the TX at 12 o’clock before Chris P was spotted on the far side going south, with Dave P going the other way 2 minutes later.

At 12:10 Chris P was above me questioning my parentage, with Dave P on the other side of the stream but neither had easy access to me, that is, until Chris said "You're not going to make me give you the f*****g envelope are you?". To which I replied "Who wants to be first?". Both thought I was joking, but then Chris realising I wasn’t, jumped down the bank for the first envelope of the day with Dave getting across seconds later. Is there something I don’t know because John Heath was also questioning my parentage as he arrived 10mins later.

After 12:30 I collected the aerial and left the site to find poor Chris H back at the cars, changing out of his boots. He had arrived at 12:25 but just failed to find me before 12:30. All teams reported a very hard DF with bearings coming from all angles and other pylons in the area.

The Pub chosen was the Rose of Lancaster on the B6195 at Chadderton there is only one thing to say for the service, food and beer - "EXCELLENT".
