Round 2 - 13th December 1998

Description: John's Choice of site foxed everyone in terms of how to get to it, and where to leave the car. John had previously used it the weekend before with Chris Plummer. They were giving a demonstration to Young Ben of how DFing works. John was surprised at how Chris struggled to find the site, and since Chris couldn't make it this month, decided to use it again for the December event.

John McNeill had trouble with his set on this event, he couldn't get a sense.

Chris Heys got a reasonable cross early on, and got out of his car on the south side of the river, only about 1/4 of a mile from the transmitter. He would have knocked almost an hour off his time, had he known it was indeed possible to cross the river Irwell. Although the disused railway bridge is inaccessible, there is an old canal bridge that goes over the river around the back of the buildings at Clifton Junction. If you look carefully on the map you might just be able to make it out. It's to the left of the railway bridge, below the pond, but on the map it's almost completely covered up by the boundary line tracing the path of the river.
