Report by TX operator Dave Peacock:
I originally chose the sight way back in February for the March DF but had to put it on hold because of foot and mouth. It was rescheduled for October hence why the envelopes were dated October; this was also cancelled so I used it for the new season instead.
I was set up and tuned in by 09.40, doesn't 20 mins. drag when waiting for the off. As this was only my second attempt, I was praying it would work because on my first outing with the transmitter in April 2000 for round 6 of the 1999-2000 season, the transmitter decided it wouldn't work. This time I wanted everything to run smoothly.
After the first transmission I phoned Dave Chip at the start (see pic) to make sure they had heard it, "No" was the reply, and I started to wonder if I had set things up correctly.
On the second transmission I didn't get any phone calls saying I couldn't be heard so I carried on. Meanwhile my other half Donna had gone to get some hot Vimto from a local kiosk. She returned about 11.00 and I asked her to go walking elsewhere so we wouldn't give the hideout away, no sooner had I said this than Chris P poked his head round waving his envelope, bad timing but at least I knew my transmissions were being heard. Chris reported that John Jocys had a flat tyre and may not be competing so I only had to wait for 2 more teams, Chris H and Dave C.
I was then left alone for half an hour till I heard Chris and Dave racing in, Dave stuck his head in the bush near to me but didn't see me so Chris not wanting to be left out had a go as well (the transmitter wasn't on at this time) but he spotted me and beat Dave in with about 30 secs. between them. I continued transmitting until I got a call about 12.00 saying J.J. wasn't showing so I packed up.
The pub I had chose was full up so we decided to go to an alternative venue called the Halfway House. The food was not bad, a future pub to visit again maybe?
I think I will make it more difficult next time because it was too easy, some thorn bushes are needed I think to get revenge for the many I have painstakingly pulled out of my legs and back in the past. I have learned some valuable knowledge from this outing and am looking forward to my next hiding whenever this may be.........
